Empowering children to harness the power of their imagination

Our mission.

Today’s children have been reading less and less, unaware of how books can benefit them.   Children are easily distracted by activities like social media, or online games, which detract from their attention and makes reading seem like a boring time-consuming option. Reading allows children to enhance their learning and inform them more about the world. Maybe most importantly, reading stimulates children’s imagination, making them think of ideas and places they’ve never experienced before.

Our project aims to bring the joy of reading and writing back to children, and show them that reading is more interesting than social media or online gaming. Our project not only aims to strengthen children’s vocabulary and inform them more about the world, it aims to show them that the possibilities are endless when you put your pen to paper.

What we do.

legendreader creates short literary magazines that provide potential writers with a creative writing prompt in the form of the first line of the story. Writers then draft their own story to the prompt, and the stories are compiled and designed into physical booklets.

About the founder

Isaac Cheung read his first fantasy book “Warriors”, when he was 8 years old, and that started a passion that exists to this day. While fantasy books are his current favorite, Isaac has read different genres ranging from science fiction to historical fiction.  Today, he tries to read at least 12 books a month, if he has free time between his school, classes, playing squash or practicing the clarinet. He started this project “legendreader” with the hopes to inspire children to read more often. Isaac lives in Hong Kong, with his parents, sister, and pet dog “Fizzy”.

“A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.”

— George R.R. Martin
